Sylvia Nelson Barteaux Obituary

Sylvia “Grammy” Nelson Barteaux gained her eternal inheritance in heaven at 1:29pm on Monday, January 10th, 2022. She lived a full and godly 73 years. She was born on June 29th, 1948 in Vero Beach, FL to Byron McVain Nelson and Cleo Mildred Manning. She accepted Jesus as her Savior as a young child at Central Baptist Church in Miami, FL.  She was married to her high school sweetheart, Gary Raymond Barteaux, on November 29th, 1969.

Sylvia called Miami, Florida home for 29 years where she attended Central Baptist Church and University Baptist Church. She began her teaching career at Coral Park Senior High in 1969 as a History Teacher. In 1980, she moved from Miami to Duluth, GA where she resided with her husband and three children for 32 years. After several years as a “domestic goddess”, she returned to teaching in 1996 at Duluth Middle School as a writing and history teacher. In their golden years, Sylvia and Gary moved to Dacula, GA in 2014. The Barteaux family attended Duluth First Baptist church for nearly a decade and then joined Hebron Baptist Church in 1990 where they have remained faithful members ever since.

Sylvia’s most admirable trait was her walk with God. And her greatest outward display of faith was her daily scripture study, including Billy Graham’s practice of reading through the Psalms and Proverbs every day. Sylvia was an avid and persistent prayer warrior. The evidence of her inumerable answered prayers serve as a testament to her steadfast and unbreakable relationship with our Father. She loved God, her family, teaching, her students, baseball and the beach!

She is survived by her husband, Gary Barteaux of Dacula, GA and her children and their spouses: Ruth and Chris Mullen of Dacula, GA; Byron and Jennifer Barteaux of Gray, GA; Benjamin and Amanda Barteaux of Dacula, GA; She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren: Kayla, Timmy and Maddie Mullen; Skylar Barteaux; Jake & Emily Barteaux . Sylvia also shares the riches of our Lord in eternity with her granddaughter Natalie Barteaux. Sylvia, Mom, Grammy, we will miss you but as you frequently reminded us: “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” Philippians 1:21

A Memorial service is being planned for sometime in June 2022. Details to follow. If you would like to send any form of condolence at this time, please send them to: Gary Barteaux 555 Grand Ivey Place, Dacula, GA 30019
