Roger Borland

Roger William Borland, age 79, passed away at his residence in on Thursday, March 30th, 2023 after battling progressive lung cancer. Preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Esther Borland. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ellen Borland; sister, Colleen Stamp and her husband, Ralph; son, Charles Keith Borland; daughter, Kimberly (Lance) Ray, and her husband Alec; son, David Borland, and his fiancé Sissy Shannon; stepson, Steve Steerman, and his wife Sandy; granddaughter, Ashley Borland, and her fiancé Richard Bryson; granddaughter, Breanna Brown, and her husband Tyler; granddaughter, Abigail Lance; great-granddaughter, Myla Bryson; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

Roger was born on June 19th, 1943 in Oelwein, Iowa but his family moved to Atlanta around the age of 10. He was a graduate from East Atlanta Highschool and then enlisted into the Navy Reserves. Later in life, he pursued a career in commercial refrigeration at Heatcraft, a division of Lennox, for 42 years. Roger was a humble and caring man who enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and neighbors. He was a fan of Nascar and the Georgia Bulldogs. Many weekends were spent singing karaoke and his favorite artists included Elvis and Johnny Cash. He loved to travel and was always up for an adventure, especially a cruise. Although gone too soon, we are comforted to know he has preceded us in the next great adventure – the everlasting. Roger had a rare soul that spread love and kindness through his life. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Go rest high on that mountain ‘Papa’.

A memorial is scheduled for 2 pm on Sunday, April 2, with visitation 1 pm at Byrd & Flannigan Crematory & Funeral Service: 288 Hurricane Shoals Rd NE Lawrenceville, GA 30046.
