Peggy Crews Whitehouse, 87, a longtime resident of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Hope Memory Center in Dacula, Georgia from complications related to advanced dementia. Peggy was born in Nashville, Tennessee on May 16, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Malcolm Patterson and Jerrie Farley Crews.
Peggy graduated from Oak Ridge High School in June of 1951 and married her husband of 62 years the late Kenneth S. Whitehouse on August 18, 1956. Peggy worked for Y-12 Credit Union, JC Penney’s, Bank of Oak Ridge, TRW Inc., and retired from NUS Haliburton on May 16, 1995. While raising her children she was very active in PTA, Girls Scouts, and was City Chairman of the Mothers March of Dimes for many years. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge and a member of the Dyllis Chapter Order No 498 of the Eastern Star.
In 1995 Peggy and Ken moved to the Dyllis Community where they owned a small farm and enjoyed working in the garden and volunteering at Dyllis Baptist Church. They loved the water and spent many hours on Watts Bar lake boating. In 2011, they returned to Oak Ridge where they lived until Ken passed away in 2017 then Peggy moved to Dacula, Georgia due to health issues. She had a great love for her family and friends.
Peggy is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth S. Whitehouse, Sr., her parents, Malcolm Patterson and Jerrie Crews, her sister Jeanette Crews Brannon, her brother Malcolm P. Crews, Jr., sister-in-law Lupita Valdez Crews, nephews Malcom Patterson Crews, III and Daniel Jackson Crews, niece Jeri Campbell Brooks.
Peggy is survived by her son Kenneth Scott Whitehouse, Jr. and wife Kim, their children Maxwell and Ava Whitehouse, her daughter Tammy Whitehouse Biron and husband Gerry, children Jennifer, Kristina and Michael Churillo, and wife Lydia, nieces Lynn Crews-Brooks and great-nephew Cameron Brooks, and Teri Campbell Wiest and husband Mick.
There will be a graveside service at Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens. 1501 Bethel Valley Road Oak Ridge ,TN on Sunday August 2nd at 2:00 pm with Pastor James Raffety of Central Baptist Church Officiating.
