Marianne Katherine Marszalek- Obituary
April, 4th 1947 – January 12th, 2023
Marianne Katherine Marszalek, 76, went home to be with the Lord, on January 12th, 2023, in Snellville, Georgia. She was born on April 4th, 1947 to Josef E. Gunther and Emma Gunther-Hartman, in Gelnhausen, Germany.
Marianne Marszalek served the USA consulate as an English interpreter. While an interpreter, she met Fredrick Joseph Marszalek Sr., serving with the United States Military, and later became her husband. Marianne and Fredrick gave birth to their first child, Denise Emma Ursula Simpson-Rich, on October 21, 1967. In 1970 Fredrick and Marianne Marszalek moved from Germany to the United States at the height of the Vietnam War.
Marianne lived in Levittown, PA; Holland, PA; Rockaway, NJ; Medford, NJ; Peachtree City, GA; Loganville, GA; and Houston, GA. She worked primarily in the food service industry, working with Lancaster Foodservice, Morrison’s, Freshy, AJA, and managed the food department at DeVry University in Decatur, GA, and Roswell, GA. She played a vital role in upholding the operations of the Marszalek family restaurant businesses.
Marianne loved competing and playing Tennis. Her competition increased to the professional level in her beginning years in Germany. She was ambidextrous and could write and play many sports with both her left and right hands. Her all-time favorite tennis player to watch was Andre Agassi. She also loved watching the Philadelphia Eagles NFL team. When she wasn’t watching sports, you could catch Marianne singing Elvis Presley’s songs on Saturday while cleaning the house.
Marianne Marszalek is preceded by her mother, Emma Gunther-Hartman; her father, Josef E. Gunther; her husband, Fredrick Joseph Marszalek Sr.; and herdaughter Denise Emma Ursula Simpson-Rich. She is survived by her children, Nicole Monique Smith, Fredrick Joseph Marszalek III, Edward Joseph Marszalek, and Eric Joseph Marszalek, seven grandchildren, and a host of extended family.
Services of death and resurrection with be held at Dunwoody United Methodist Church, 1548 Mt Vernon Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30338, on Monday, February, 6th, 2023, at 10:00 am. After the funeral and reception, interment services will happen at Georgia’s National Cemetery in Canton, GA, at 1:30 pm.
The family is asking for any donations to be made to St. Jude Hospital at Marianne’s request in lieu of flowers.
