Marcia Hope (Brown) Evans was born November 18, 1941, Englewood, New Jersey. She was the only daughter of 7 children born to John Scott Brown Jr. and Melle Hortense (Stubbs) Brown. She was educated in the Public School system of Englewood and graduated from Dwight Morrow High School. Upon graduating, Marcia worked for Macy’s Department store in New York City. She later worked for the Government Printing Office, U.S. Post Office and General Accounting Office in Washington, D.C., where she served in the General Accounting Office as Chief Claims Adjudicator and retired after 25 years of service.
While living in Washington, D.C., Marcia often traveled to Englewood, New Jersey to see her father, grandmother, great aunts, aunts, brothers and cousins.
While working as Chief Claims Adjudicator, she met and fell in love with Herman Evans, and they were married. She loved the water and Evans would often take Marcia sailing on his boat on the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. They both loved the water and moved to Highland Beach, Maryland where they would often walk along the beach and fish. She loved to go fishing and golfing. Marcia was also a shopaholic and would spend hours at various malls with her sister cousin Anne.
Marcia loved her family and made many sacrifices to ensure that everyone was happy. She was self-less, an extremely strong and independent woman who many times put her desires on hold to make her loved ones happy.
In 2017, after spending 10 days with her daughter Hope swimming, fishing and basking in the sun at Highland Beach, Marcia was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought very hard and despite the difficulty, she continued to travel back and forth from Maryland to Georgia to see her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She had a great love for her 3 daughters - - one who is deceased, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her greatest desire during her last moments was to be surrounded by her loved ones. That is exactly what happened, her husband, daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren surrounded her with love and care. She passed peacefully with her husband and daughters holding her hand.
Marcia is survived by her husband, Herman Evans and 2 daughters Hope Birdsong (Robert), Donisan Cannon (Patrick) and grandchildren, Tayler Drayton, Morgan Cannon, Aubrey Cannon, great grandchildren Owen and Aurora.
