Harold Ray Flanigan

Harold Ray Flanigan, age 79, of Hoschton, GA and the Hog Mountain Community passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022. Harold was led to the Lord by Jewell Jackson on July 7, 1970. He served God and held to his convictions his entire life. He was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church, Lawrenceville where he was a faithful member of the choir for 32 years.  Harold retired from General Motors Assembly plant in Doraville after 32 years of service.  Harold never met a stranger.  He was always willing to talk about the best sales at the grocery store, gas prices and loved to give a telemarketer a run for their money!  For the last 20 years Harold always looked forward to the Gwinnett County Fair where he had a reputation as the “Peanut Man.”  He could have a line of customers but would take the time to have a conversation with every single person. He thought he had the secret recipe for the best boiled peanuts.  Harold was proud to tell you he was born and raised in Hog Mountain.

He had a strong work ethic his whole life.  He loved to garden and his collection of antique Farmall tractors and unstyled John Deere tractors.  He loved the Dacula Memorial Day parade and the Bostwick Cotton Gin Festival parade.  Harold would buy antique tractors and loved to get them running again. If you quoted Harold a price and he thought it was too high, you would get that distinct “Harold whistle.”  His whistle was known by many people! 

Harold is preceded in death by his parents:  Eurskin and Idean Buice Flanigan; brothers:  Woodrow Flanigan, Odell Flanigan, Randall Flanigan and two infant brothers who passed at birth; brother Randall Flanigan, son Kenneth Ray Flanigan and nephew, Timothy “Timmy” Massey.  Harold is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ida Bentley Flanigan; Children:  Sherrie & Dennis Houston; Michael & Jennifer Flanigan and grandson, DJ Houston.  His bonus family:  Dayna & Kerry Shaw and their children: Easton, Holland and River and Katie & Cody Collins. Brothers and Sisters-in-Law:  Roy & Elaine Flanigan, Jerry & Ruth Flanigan, Junior & Sharon Flanigan, George P. & Isabel Flanigan and Sister and Brother-in-Law, Mary & Tim Massey, Aunt Betty Buice and Sisters-in-Law, Kathy Flanigan, Grace Bentley and Robbie Bentley and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

A celebration of Harold’s life will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Cross Roads Baptist Church, Lawrenceville with Pastors Kenny Kuykendall, Jonathan Flanigan and Buddy Rhodes officiating.  Harold will lie in state at the church from 1:30 pm until the time of service. Interment will follow at Duncan Creek Congregational Church Cemetery with Pastor William Jackson officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 4 pm until 8 pm at Byrd & Flanigan Funeral Service, 288 Hurricane Shoals Road NE, Lawrenceville.
