Daniel Howard Kroening, 66, a native of Stillwater, Minnesota, passed away on March 6, 2023, comfortably surrounded by his family, during a spectacular Atlanta sunset.
Dan was a tremendous soul living on earth. His kindness and over-the-top sense of humor made an impact on every person with whom he interacted. Dan loved to tell stories and make up goofy songs to sing to his children, Amy Jo, and whomever else was in earshot. He adored his kitty cats, Natasha and Miss Prrrrl. In a move that was out of character for Dan, he "took the risk" and ventured to the Atlanta area with the love of his life, Amy Jo. Shortly after they arrived in Georgia, he accepted a position with Gwinnett County Public Schools and blended into a work family that he absolutely adored. Whenever he had the chance, Dan would get on the golf course to experience "hours of exasperation with moments of brilliance." He bled purple for the Minnesota Vikings and endured their triumphs and sorrows throughout the years. Dan also enjoyed Ham radio as a hobby and was a certified storm spotter for the area in which he lived.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Kroening, and his mother, Nancy Kroening. Dan is survived by his life partner and best friend Amy Jo Jacobson; children Nick Kroening, Alyssa Kroening, and Gregg (Savanna) Kroening; sisters Beth (Bob) Haselman and Deb (Michael) Huttner; brothers John (Kathy), Bob (Kristy), and Jim (Amy); and grandsons Ben Kroening and Zackary Kroening.
A casual memorial will be held in Minnesota at a later time.
