On Monday, August 31, 2020, our dear loved one, Catherine White Payne, went home to be with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Better known as “Cat,” Catherine was born November 13, 1947, to the late Thomas White, Sr. and Pinkey Keeling White in Princess Anne County, (Virginia Beach, Virginia). She attended Union Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach and has resided in Georgia for over twenty years. Catherine faithfully served and retired from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, as a Toll Collector and later as a Purchasing Agent.
The love of travel was Catherine’s hobby. She enjoyed traveling on cruises and weekend excursions. She lived in Yokohama, Japan, for several years, and her favorite place to vacation was the beaches of St. Maarten and visiting New York to attend Broadway shows. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading books, spending time, and sharing her ideas with her local Book Club, A- Likely Story. For many years, Catherine was a hospital volunteer at Winder-Barrow Hospital. She was a member of the AARP Winder Chapter and the women’s group, The Precious Jewels. She also enjoyed having lunch outings with the retired ladies in her neighborhood.
Catherine will forever be cherished by her two loving children, daughter, Sharon Waldon (Grayson, GA); Son, David Reed, Virginia Beach, VA, and one devoted grandchild, Breana Waldon, Auburn, GA. She will be dearly missed by her two sisters, Cora Braithwaite, Norfolk, VA, Dorothy K. Johnson, Winder, GA; and loving nieces and nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas White Jr, Sisters, Thelma Williams and Bernice Smith.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 5, 2020, from 12:00 -1:00 PM.
