Cassius "Cass" Lawrence passed away on April 24, 2021 at the age of 63, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Cass came out a hero and stayed strong until the end. Born in Staunton, Virginia on October 25, 1957, Cass was the son of the late Betty Wyatt Vint Lawrence and Conrad Ten Eyck “Buck” Lawrence. Cass graduated from Virginia Tech and moved from Blacksburg to Richmond, Virginia to begin a career with the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. His career would later take the Lawrence family to Lawrenceville, Georgia where he retired in 2019 after 33 dedicated years.
Mr. Lawrence enjoyed the outdoors all his life. He especially looked forward to trout fishing, dove hunting, camping in the family RV, and boating on Lake Hartwell. On Saturdays, in the fall he would have been found at Virginia Tech football games. He was also enthusiastic about improvements to his home and various other family properties. Mr. Lawrence was of the Episcopalian faith.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years Rebecca S. Lawrence, daughter Laura Lawrence, and son Conrad "Tommy" Lawrence. Further survived by sisters Wyatt Heisler and husband John, Louise Fountain and husband Lon, Mary Welliver and husband Charles "Kim", Agnes Gallager and husband Darel, and Marty Lawrence, wife of his late brother Conrad T. Lawrence Jr. Cass will also be remembered by many loving cousins, nieces, nephew’s, and friends. Cass will be fondly remembered as a loving father, committed husband, and loyal friend.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Byrd & Flanigan Crematory & Funeral Service, 288 Hurricane Shoals Rd., NE, Lawrenceville, GA 30046. There will be a celebration of life in Virginia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, it was Cass’s wish that donations be made to the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
