Obituary

William Stephen Pate, age 73 of Midway, Georgia, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Friday, April 21, 2023. Will was a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in economics.

After college Will served as the Mayor of Lawrenceville, Georgia from 1985-1986 which was the county seat of Gwinnett County at a time when Gwinnett County was one of the fastest growing counties in the United States. Will then joined McKenney's, Inc., an Atlanta-based commercial mechanical contractor, where he spent the majority of his career. He joined McKenney's as a salesperson focused on building their services business, which included the repair, service, and replacement of HVAC equipment for owners and managers of commercial properties. Will excelled in this role and ultimately grew the service business to over 80 technicians before retiring in 2011 as one of the company's top executive and most impactful leaders. Will was a devoted follower of Christ and loved quail hunting and catching redfish in the waters near his home on Colonels Island.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sybil and Rex Pate, and his Son Matthew Lee Pate.  He is survived by his brother James R. Pate and his spouse Sue Pate of Johns Creek, Georgia, his children Thomas Andrew Pate of Greenwood, South Carolina, Paige Adair and her spouse Jake Adair of Charlotte, North Carolina, William Chandler Bowers and his spouse Megan Bowers of Roswell, Georgia, his close friend Julie Rhiannon Proudfoot of Midway, Georgia, along with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in honor of William Stephen Pate to a charity of your choice.
