UT VAN DANG

passed away peacefully at home on August 7, 2021, surrounded by family, at the age of 78. He was born to Mr. On Dang and Mrs. Cua Phan in Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his two older sisters, Them Dang and De Dang. He is survived by his wife, Bich Van Nguyen, daughter Thao Dang, son Huy Dang, son-in-law Binh Le, and three grandsons, Alexander Le, Felix Le, and Duy Dang. Before 1975, he was the police chief of Can Giuoc County, Long An Province, Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam). After the Fall of Saigon, he spent more than five years as a political prisoner. After being freed, he ran a small candy distribution business which gave him the nickname Ong Ut Keo ("Mr. Candy Ut"). He immigrated with his wife and daughter to the United States in 1994. Initially settling in California, he and his family moved to Georgia in 1995. He was a loving father and a protective grandfather. He loved reciting classical poetry, watching soccer, and vacationing at the beach. He was also known to sing Vietnamese soap opera after downing six-packs of Heineken, his favorite brand of beer. A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 10:00 am - 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Byrd & Flanigan Funeral Service Lawrenceville GA.
