Toya Louise Campbell Pryor was born on August 30 , 1953 to John F. Campbell and Billie Faye Kindle in Midland, Texas. Toya was the eldest child of eight siblings. She attended elementary school in both Midland, Texas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After the family relocated to Spencer, Oklahoma, Toya attended Dunjee High School in her junior and senior years. She was a proud member of the marching band as the first chair clarinet player and enjoyed singing in the chorus. Toya graduated at the top of her class and received an academic scholarship to Southeastern State University in Oklahoma. She was the first of her family to attend and complete college receiving a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. Toya was very active in college and was an instrumental part of ushering in black greek life on campus. She was very vocal on the student council on civil rights issues and other inequalities amongst black students, being part of the first group of students to integrate the school. While attending Southeastern, Toya met the love of her life; John Earl Pryor. They begin courting and eventually married during her senior year on January 9 th , 1974. That same year her husband started his career in the Air Force. While stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Toya and John started their family with the birth of Tera Lashea Carter (1975) and Angela Nicole Pryor (1977). From there they relocated to Ellsworth, AirForce base then Vandenberg Air Force in California. While in California, Toya gave birth to her and John's only son, Hubert Cleveland Pryor II (1982). Toya taught third grade while the family was stationed in Sicily, Italy. After moving to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Toya began her career in restaurant management where she excelled, winning several awards in quality control and customer service. Throughout her career she worked at Braums Ice Cream and Burger King. Toya was a faithful member of several congregations during her adult years, never letting relocating to new communities keep her from serving. She was a faithful member of St John Baptist Church in Altus, Oklahoma and Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Lilburn, Georgia the longest. Toya enjoyed cooking and was known for being an avid sports enthusiast. She was a lifelong Cowboys and Lakers fan. Above everything else she loved spending time with her family. Family members who proceeded her death: Rev. John Frank Campbell (Father), Billie Faye Griffith (Mother), Charles Lee Griffith Sr. (Stepfather), Charles Lee Griffith Jr. (Brother), Andrea Griffith (Sister), Loretta Henderson Forrester (Sister). She leaves to cherish her memories her three beautiful children; Tera Lashea Carter, Angela Nicole Pryor, and Hubert Cleveland Pryor II (Micha) all in Lawrenceville, GA, five grandchildren that are her pride and joy, Essence Carter, Decatur, Georgia, Isaiah Carter, Duluth, Georgia, and Sadeja Carter, Decatur, Ga, Brandon Durben (Megan) Gas City, IN, Jayden Vasquez (Bailey), Muncie, IN, five lovely sisters, Rev. Gloria Faye Wynds (Earl), Fairburn, GA, Cheri Lynn Griffith, Blakely, GA, Lynn Campbell, Midland, Texas, Annette Deshawn Hill (Michael), Dallas, Texas, Fredrika Thomas (Jay), Midland, Texas, one brother, Michael Griffith, Dallas, Texas, her precious aunt, Mary Jo Campbell Andrews (Clarence), Sahuarita, Arizona, One son in law, Randy Carter, six sister in laws that she adored, Dora Driver, Wichita Falls, Texas, Pearlie Pryor, Wichita Falls, Texas, Hazel Pryor, Tampa, Florida, Marian Pryor, Red Oak, Texas, Dorothy Smith, Fredrick, Oklahoma, Yvonne Griffith, Hopewell, Virginia, a host of nieces and nephews and friends across the nation that loved her dearly.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday September 20, 2024 at Salem Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Haynes officiating.
