Rhoden
February 3, 1949 – July 24, 2024
Thomas Theron Rhoden, a retired mechanic, and resident of Conyers, Georgia passed away on July 24th, 2024 after a year long battle with cancer. He is survived by his two children, James and Chloe Rhoden and his wife, Tracy Rhoden. Tom was born on February 3rd, 1949 in Aiken, South Carolina to Julius T Rhoden and Jimmie Broxton. He attended Aiken Highschool where he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was named among outstanding Civil Air Patrol cadets in the nation to become international exchange cadets. He spent several weeks abroad in England and Spain among other countries in 1967 while in the Civil Air Patrol. In 1969 he graduated from Oxford College of Emory University with an associates degree.
In 1973 he began working as a Service Manager for Northlake Porsche Audi and remained there as a valued employee until 1982. After leaving Porsche he went on to open and co-own the first emissions business in Georgia and owned his own mechanic shop located on Memorial Drive. Eventually he took a break from the car business and worked as a bartender at Manuel's Tavern in Atlanta. He later returned to work in mechanic shops where he settled into VSW Auto Repair in Conyers working for his long time friend Vinny Chhay. He was extremely well versed in car knowledge and was happy to diagnose any mechanical issue brought to him.
Tom was known among friends to be a very hard working, loyal and honest man with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed coffee and a pepper with every meal and was a known lover of hot sauces and jam bands. He frequently attended car shows and races in his spare time. He also enjoyed watching lots of movies, taking pictures, going thrift shopping, and caring for his cats. In 1995 his son James was born followed by his daughter Chloe in 1999. They were his pride and joy. He worked hard to provide for them and was a tremendous father and role model. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and most of all his children who loved him very much. Tom will always be with them. His memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m on Saturday August 3rd at Byrd and Flanigan in Lawrenceville, GA.
