Sonia L. Gilchrist age 60, transitioned peacefully to her heavenly home in the presence of her husband on November 4, 2021, at her residence after courageously fighting her battle with cancer.

Sonia was born January 9th, 1961 in New Haven, Connecticut. She was raised by her parents, Barbara Jean Butler and Tyler Butler. She graduated from Hillhouse in 1979 and on June 22, 1991, Sonia was happily married to her husband, Timothy Gilchrist, who was the love of her life for more than 30 years.

Sonia had a successful career as a case worker for DFCS for over 20 years, then for the remainder of her career, she retired after working as a secretary for the Department of Juvenile Justice. At a young age, Sonia professed her faith in Jesus Christ and raised her daughters to love the Lord and trust in his word.

Some of Sonia's favorite joys in life was spending time with her family and loyal friends, going for walks in the park on cool summer days, planting fruits and vegetables in her garden, trying new cuisines, and caring for her loved ones. As a result of her pleasant personality and loving heart, her beautiful life will be cherished by many of those who loved her dearly.

She is survived by her faithful husband, Timothy Gilchrist, her two loving daughters, Genesis and Tiffany Gilchrist, and her two older brothers, Cameron and Derrick Butler.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life ceremony on Saturday November 13, 2021 from 12pm - 1:30pm from the chapel of Byrd and Flanigan Funeral Home 288 Hurricane Shoals Road NE Lawrenceville, GA 30046. Flowers, donations and condolences may be offered at the service.
