Semaya Maryum Fontaine
December 7, 2000 – September 27, 2026
Semaya Maryum Fontaine, a vibrant, brilliant, and fiercely determined soul, passed away on September 27, 2026, after a valiant and tireless battle against an aggressive form of blood cancer known as CTCL/Sezary syndrome.
Born on December 7, 2000, at DeKalb Medical Center in Decatur, Georgia, Semaya was a force of nature from the start. Exceptionally strong and intelligent, she excelled in everything she set her mind to, from sports to academics. She was fully prepared to take the world by storm by any means necessary, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who knew her, even in her youth.
Semaya pursued her higher education at Fort Valley State University and Augusta State University. Professionally, she dedicated a year of hard work as a lab technician and seed analyst with AB Seeds in Norcross, Georgia.
Though her time with us was cut short, Semaya's legacy of strength, resilience, and love lives on through her devoted family and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Thess Fontaine, and her grandfather of the same name.
She is deeply mourned and cherished by her surviving family members:
Siblings: Gabriyel Fontaine, Miykael Fontaine, and Rafael Fontaine, Nieces and Nephews: Layla Elizabeth Fontaine and Kyi'el Thess Fontaine
Grandparents: Inez Anita Fontaine, Barry Moore, and Crystal Moore, Aunts: Dawn Christine Fontaine and Towanda Jones, Uncle: Eric Charles Moore, Cousins: A host of loving cousins
Semaya also leaves behind her cherished emotional support pets, Stormi and Bentley, who brought immense comfort and joy to her life.
Semaya fought courageously against CTCL/Sezary syndrome, and her family knows she would wish for others to be aware of this disease and to continue the fight. In honor of her strength and memory, her family encourages anyone who is able to become a stem cell donor to help others battling blood cancers.
Semaya's light, brilliance, and warrior spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday October 10, 2026 from the chapel of Byrd and Flanigan Funeral Home with Pastor Kenny Cooper Officiating. A Reception will follow the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers please make contributions in Semaya's Honor to the Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundation at clfoundation.org
