Ruth Powell Ewing Sappington

Ruth Powell Ewing Sappington, age 97, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on January 4, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia, Ruth lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and cherished great-grandmother whose greatest joy was spending time with those she loved.

Ruth was preceded in death by her first husband, H.A. Ewing; her son, Hollis W. Ewing; her grandson-in-law, Chris Nix; her parents; and her four siblings.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 30 years, Joe Sappington; her daughter, Cheryl Ewing Crowe and husband, Rick Crowe; her stepchildren, Howard Sappington (Marcela), Lyn Brown (Reynolds), her grandchildren, Cindy Crowe Free (Carl), Shane Ewing (Erica), and Chrissy Crowe Nix; Zachary Brown (Emily); Rey Brown (Eliana Janssen) her great-grandchildren, Aubrey Free, Molly Free, CJ Nix, Cooper Nix, Jonah; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Ruth will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering faith, quiet strength, and the unconditional love she gave to her family. Her legacy of compassion, generosity, and devotion will live on in the lives of all who were blessed to know her.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Byrd & Flanigan Funeral Service. A funeral service celebrating Ruth's life will follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place immediately afterward at Rest Haven Gardens of Memorial in Decatur, Georgia.

The family is grateful for the love, prayers, and support shown during this time as they celebrate a life welllived and a woman who loved deeply and was deeply loved.
