Ronald Lee Flynn, Jr., 67, of Lilburn, GA, died unexpectedly on May 13, 2024, due to complications from surgery.  He was born in Jacksonville, FL, to Carolyn Ophelia Whatley and Ronald L. Flynn, Sr., the firstborn of five children.  His parents and younger brother, William Theodore Flynn, preceded him in death.

A proud Veteran, Ronald served 10 years in the U.S. Army, four years active duty and six in the Army Reserve.  As an Airborne Ranger he served in the 75th Ranger Regiment 3rd Battalion at Fort Benning, GA; the 11th Airborne Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska; the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vicenza, Italy; and the 75th Ranger Regiment 1st Battalion in Ft. Stewart, GA, where he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant.  While serving his country he achieved a parachute badge, ranger tab, good conduct, and expert on the M-16A1 rifle.

Ronald loved the outdoors and was involved with the Boy Scouts since becoming Scoutmaster of a troop in 1985.  His passion was teaching the younger generations skills to help them be prepared for life.  He loved and believed in the Scout Law and Scout Oath.  He held a number of positions in Scouting including Pack Committee Chairman, Unit Commissioner, Roundtable Commissioner, Assistant District Commissioner and Crew Advisor.  While serving in Scouting, Ronald received a number of awards and recognitions including Scouter's Training Award, Adult on My Honor Religious Award, Woodbadge Beads, Order of the Arrow Distinguished Service Award, Commissioner Key, Commissioner Service Honor Award, Distinguished Commissioner Award, Cub Scouter's Training Award, James E. West Award, Venturing Training Award, Advisor's Key, Advisor's Award of Merit, William D. Boyce New Unit Organizer Award, District Award of Merit, Venturing Leadership Award, Veteran Award for 30 years of service.  More importantly, he mentored many young men to complete their final project and achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

Ronald served as a volunteer firefighter and worked as an Emergency Medical Technician, paramedic, security officer, and local truck driver.  He had a passion for teaching and instruction in his later years.  He proactively taught about firearms, reloading and safety.  He is remembered by countless students, colleagues and friends.  He loved fishing, cooking – especially Dutch oven cooking, scouting, shooting, his grandchildren, and range day outings with his daughter.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Ronald is survived by his wife Victoria Lockmiller Flynn, daughter Kaleigh Flynn and two grandsons Kain Irwin and Killian Irwin-Flynn of Lawrenceville, GA, three sisters Angela Jones of Shelby, NC, LeAnn Bellotte and Marian Rosenberger both of Jacksonville, FL, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
