IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Joseph
Jones
December 7, 1931 – January 23, 2024
Robert J. Jones died peacefully at the age of 92. He was born in Corbin, KY in 1931. After completing high school in Louisville, KY, he was accepted at the Cincinnati Central Academy of Art.
He landed his first job at Better Homes and Gardens Magazine in Des Moines, IA where he met his future wife Barbara Bettis. They moved to Illinois where they started a family. He quickly gained fame in the advertising industry and worked his way up to Executive Creative Director at J. Walter Thompson in Chicago.
He became well known for his work on television commercials including brands such as Schlitz, Kraft, and his most famous Oscar Meyer's "My bologna has a first name".
His longing for the south took him to Greenville, SC where he and Barbara opened an antique/folk art store. This store allowed him to carve, paint, and write about his childhood days. After Barbaras passed, he spent his remaining years in Atlanta surrounded by his family and dogs.
He is survived by his daughter Amy and her husband Ron, his grandchildren Jennifer, Tyler, Nick, and Ally, and 4 great-grandchildren.
