IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert
Hill
June 22, 1938 – September 10, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert W. Hill Sr on September 10, 2024, at the age of 86. Bob was born in Miami, FL in 1938 to Hermine Westlake and Frazier Cox Hill. He was educated in the public schools of Miami and graduated from Banks county high School in Homer, Georgia in 1956. That very summer he attended Berry college in Rome, Georgia and after 2 years of study, transferred to Georgia State College, now University of Georgia. Bob took courses at night school which led to a BBA in marketing in 1962. During this time he met and married Nell Bonds of Lawrenceville, Georgia in 1961. They both worked at the Avon products facility on spring Street near 14th Street. After graduation from GSC, Bob joined the Georgia Air national guard at Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta and was commissioned a second lieutenant. Later that year he and Nell went to Waco, Texas for USAF navigator training. Lieutenant Hill graduated high in his class in October 1963 and the couple returned to Atlanta to pursue their careers. Bob flew frequently with the guard on overseas missions and four-engine transports accumulating about 1,300 hours during his time with the 128th military airlift squadron at Dobbins. In the meantime, he began a career in sales and marketing, mainly in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. This brought about relocations to Indianapolis, Chicago and Charlotte North Carolina. Bob, Nell and their two children Robert Jr and Andrea returned to Atlanta in 1987 where Bob started a specialty woodworking business in Gwinnett called Southern Customs. This pursuit lasted for about 20 years until retirement.
