Naomi "Ruth" McHugh Flanigan, age 82, of Winder, GA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. Ruth was born on November 15, 1942, in Decatur, Georgia.
She received her education at Central Gwinnett High School and dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker. Ruth was of the Baptist faith. Ruth was from a God-fearing home where the Bible was read daily—a foundation that deeply shaped her love for the Lord and her understanding of His grace.
Ruth loved her "Westerns" and had a fondness for the color red. She was known for her quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 56 years, Jerry Flanigan, who went home to be with the Lord on August 8, 2025. She was also preceded by her parents, Emory and Ruby McHugh; siblings Larry McHugh, Wayne McHugh, Emory "Butch" McHugh, and Linda McHugh Cochran; niece Teri Cochran; father- and mother-in-law Eurskin and Idean Flanigan; brothers-in-law Odell Flanigan, Woodrow Flanigan, Randall Flanigan, and Harold Flanigan; and nephews Timothy Massey and Ken Flanigan.
Ruth is survived by her loving daughter, Debbie (Michael) Landress of Winder; grandchildren Joshua (Megan) Landress and Michelle Landress, both of Winder; great-grandchildren Madilyn Landress, Mason Landress, and Logan Dowdy, all of Winder. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Roy (Elaine) Flanigan of Buford, Junior (Sharon) Flanigan of Buford, George (Isabel) Flanigan of Dacula; sisters-in-law Mary (Tim) Massey of Hoschton, Judy McHugh of Greensboro, Kathy Flanigan of Lawrenceville, and Ida Flanigan of Hoschton; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
A Celebration of Ruth's Life will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Byrd & Flanigan Funeral Service, Lawrenceville, with Rev. Joshua Landress and Rev. Jonathan Flanigan officiating. Interment will follow at Duncan Creek Congregational Church Cemetery, with Pastor Scott Cramer officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
