MELVIN DOUGLAS WATKINS

January 26, 1954- October 21, 2016

Melvin Douglas Watkins, age 62, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away peacefully on October 21, 2016 at Vitas Hospice New Hope Medical in Duluth, GA after a recent major stroke.

He was born on January 26, 1954 to Huey Levon and Helen Louise Green Watkins in Birmingham, AL. He graduated in 1972 from Valdosta High School in Valdosta, GA. Mr. Watkins was Honorably Discharged in 1995 from the United States Army.

He was an avid Nascar Fan and Football Fanatic. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his two talking birds named " Frankie and Dollie".  Mr. Watkins always had a positive outlook and was a kind, comical, generous, and loving husband, father, step-father, and grandfather.

He enjoyed listening to music especially oldie goldies and he loved playing the drums. He loved talking with friends and spending time in Myrtle Beach, SC which was his favorite vacation spot.  Melvin also loved his extended family as well including his sister in laws, brother in laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews along with his co-workers.

He was currently employed with Graphic Packaging International in Stone Mountain, GA as a  Finishing Operator.

Melvin will be greatly missed by all that knew him but his memories will forever be in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother, Jean Watkins. He is survived by his wife Rose Mare Watkins of Lawrenceville, GA; daughter and son-in-law Debra Lynn and Jason Robins of Haleyville, AL; daughter Kristy Watkins Thrasher of Arley, AL; step-son Chris Spivey of Senoia, GA; grandchildren Blair Harbin, Harley Harbin of Navvoo, AL; Zack Thrasher and Toby Thrasher of Arley, AL; Dalton Spivey of Peachtree City, GA; great-grandson Dalton Harbin of Navvoo, AL.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 3:00p.m at the chapel of Byrd & Flanigan Crematory and Funeral Service in Lawrenceville, GA. with Military Honors.  Visitation will be two- hours prior to the service from 1:00p.m. to 3:00p.m.
