Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Uncle Luther Waldrip, who left this world peacefully on July 19, 2025, at the age of 77. A man of deep roots, enduring loyalty, and a heart full of music, stories, and love, Luther's presence was a cherished constant in the lives of all who knew him. Born the youngest of 11 siblings, Luther held a special place in his large, close-knit family. His natural warmth and quick wit made him a favorite among his family. He was blessed with many nieces and nephews, many of which he affectionately gave their own unique nickname — a small but lasting mark of his boundless love for them. Luther was also blessed with many lifelong friends. Luther proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his military service, Luther returned to Gwinnett Wholesale, where he had worked before enlisting. He remained there for many years, building strong friendships and earning the respect of those around him. He eventually retired from the company, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and loyalty. Some of Luther's happiest days were spent in the quiet of the countryside — whether working at the farm or fishing and hunting at the cabin, places that brought him peace and joy. He had a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures: the sound of country and gospel music playing in the background, watching westerns or fishing shows, and spending time with family and friends. Luther is preceded in death by his parents, Coleman and Lily Waldrip, and his siblings: Ethel Waldrip, Frank Waldrip (Mary), Don Waldrip, Rachel Waldrip Brinkley (Vernon), Fred Waldrip, Arthur Waldrip, Gene Waldrip (Joyce), Nick Waldrip (Margret), and Ollie Waldrip (Lucille), and brother in law, Raleigh Porter. He is survived by his sister, Louise Waldrip Porter, and by many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and will forever remember his stories, his kindness, and the laughter he brought to every gathering. While he will be deeply missed, we choose to celebrate his life and the time we were blessed to share with him. We will not let the chain of love end with him, but will carry it forward in his memory.
