IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Latheta Ann
Harvey
December 2, 1941 – February 10, 2022
As she was sleeping peacefully and surrounded by her family, Latheta Ann Harvey, age 80 of Lawrenceville, GA, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, February 10th. Despite the sadness of that morning, the day that followed was unseasonably warm, abundant with sunshine, and filled with the melody of birds singing just outside the windows. It was as if spring had come early to usher her on in the most fitting way.
Ann, as she was known to her family and friends, is survived by Don, her husband of 58 years, and her 7 children: Dawn Baker, Tracy Harvey, Patrick Harvey, Russell Harvey, Shannon Harvey, Alex Harvey, & Kelli Harvey. She also leaves behind her sister, Connie Miller, as well as 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 sons in law, 2 daughters in law, and 3 dogs.
Ann was very active in improving her community through her work as a foster parent and volunteer. She provided a home to more than 40 children in need during her 20 year span of being a foster parent alongside her husband, Don. She was also the founding volunteer at Piedmont Eastside Medical Hospital, having started the Volunteer Services Program in 1983 with just a handful of dedicated volunteers. Despite having to resign from her active duties in 2013 due to health complications, Ann continued to participate in volunteer events and luncheons as an Honorary Auxiliary Member up until just a few years ago. She was immensely proud to be an integral part of growing the program into the over 300 member strong organization that it is today.
Ann enjoyed spending her leisure time attending weekly workshops with the Atlanta Doll Makers Club for over 30 years. During these gatherings she and her fellow members would work side by side on a variety of projects creating miniature porcelain dolls, seasonally themed miniature scenes, & decorative shadow boxes. She was a talented doll maker and produced many beautiful porcelain creations which she displayed proudly in her home, and often gave away as gifts to those she loved. On warm spring days, Ann could be found in her backyard garden or local flower shops picking out her next plants to bring home and plant with Don's help. She was an avid gardener with an enviable green thumb, often sharing cuttings and plant care advice with neighbors and friends. Her favorite flower was peach colored roses, and when the weather turned warm, you could smell their sweet fragrance throughout her garden. She loved watching the birds and butterflies that stopped by for a visit and found a place to rest in the beautiful spaces she created for them. She also loved animals and was never without several dogs at her feet.
We remember Ann as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and neighbor, and hope that her legacy of service to her community, her love of animals, and passion for gardening will continue to live on in the memories of her that we all hold dear. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Byrd & Flanigan Funeral Service in Lawrenceville GA.
