Obituary

Kimberly Alice Brown, 46, of Alto, Georgia, passed away on August 25, 2026, following a lifelong and courageous battle with congenital heart disease (CHD). Born on January 5, 1980, she faced the challenges of CHD and DiGeorge syndrome (22q11.2 deletion syndrome) with remarkable strength and grace.

Kimberly’s love of animals began in childhood, when she enjoyed showing ponies, horses, and bunnies. That affection remained a meaningful part of her life and was reflected in the animals she and her family cherished at home.

She attended George Walton Academy and earned an associate degree in hospitality from Gwinnett Technical College. Kimberly was also a proud military wife to her husband, Derek Brown, a United States Navy Seabee. Married on May 2, 2009, Kimberly and Derek built a loving life together.

The greatest joy of Kimberly’s life was her cherished daughter, Myranda Grace Brown. She was immensely proud of Myranda as a student and avid dancer and especially loved watching her perform. Kimberly treasured their new home and the life they shared there.

Kimberly’s creativity and talent found expression through The Rustic Barn, her business specializing in custom embroidery, gifts, and shirts. Through her work, she brought joy to many while sharing the warmth and care that defined her.

Drawing from her own experiences, Kimberly became a passionate advocate for patients and families affected by congenital heart defects and DiGeorge syndrome. She worked to promote awareness and support others living with these conditions, making compassion and service an important part of her legacy.

Kimberly is survived by her husband, Derek; her daughter, Myranda; her parents, Vicky and Benny Roberts; her brother, Ben Roberts (Jesse); her nephew, Braxton Roberts; her nieces, Bryleigh Roberts and Brielyn Roberts; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, surgeons, nurses, and medical teams at Emory University Hospital and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for the exceptional care, compassion, and support they provided Kimberly throughout her life. Their dedication and kindness meant so much to her and her family.

Kimberly will be remembered for her courage, creativity, love of animals, devotion to her family, and advocacy for others. Above all, she will be remembered for the tremendous love and pride she had for Myranda, who was truly the greatest joy of her life.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday August 29, 2026 from the chapel of Byrd and Flanigan Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
