In Loving Memory of Kevin Dexter Whigham

With profound sorrow and broken hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Kevin Dexter Whigham, who entered into eternal rest on July 7, 2026, at the age of 54. Kevin was born to Dexter Terry Whigham and Lois Arline Whigham (Lucy) on October 27, 1971, in Atlanta, Georgia. He spent his childhood in Valdosta before returning to Atlanta to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned his degree in civil engineering. During his time at Georgia Tech, he was a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Order (KA) fraternity, forming friendships that remained important throughout his life. He later achieved the distinction of becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.). Atlanta remained his home, where he built a remarkable career, raised a loving family, and formed countless other lifelong friendships. Kevin dedicated his professional life to serving others through engineering. He spent many years with McFarland-Dyer & Associates before continuing with Bowman following its acquisition. Most recently, he proudly served as the City Engineer for the City of Dacula, a role he deeply enjoyed because it allowed him to make a direct and lasting impact on the community he served. His integrity, expertise, and thoughtful leadership earned the respect of colleagues, contractors, elected officials, and residents alike. Above every professional accomplishment, Kevin’s greatest pride was his family.

He shared a beautiful love story with his wife, Verouschka Betancourt Whigham. They met in 1994 when Verouschka was 19 years old and spent the next 32 years building a life filled with unwavering love, laughter, faith, and partnership. On August 5, they would have celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary. Together, they raised two sons, Court and Chase, whom Kevin loved beyond measure. His family was his greatest accomplishment, and every decision he made reflected his devotion to them.

Kevin was the kind of husband and father who led quietly but powerfully. He taught through his example—showing that strength is found in kindness, that character is built through integrity, and that love is best expressed through everyday acts of service.

Outside of work, Kevin found joy in the simple things. He loved working in his yard, fixing anything that was broken, building projects with his own hands, and finding solutions to problems that others thought impossible. If someone needed help, Kevin was already on his way. He never looked for recognition; helping people was simply part of who he was.

Sports were another lifelong passion. Kevin was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Falcons, and Georgia Tech athletics, especially Yellow Jackets football. He loved baseball in every form and, thanks to his wife, even developed a special appreciation for Auburn. Whether watching a game with family or cheering from the stands, sports were another way he connected with the people he loved. He made it a priority to never miss one of his sons’ games or events, whether it was football, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, wrestling, or track. Through every victory and every setback, they could always count on seeing their dad in the stands, proudly cheering them on. But to him, being there to support them was never an obligation—it was one of his greatest joys.

Kevin also believed in giving back to his community. He generously volunteered with the Brookwood Football Association and supported the Brookwood High School Athletic Boosters, investing his time and energy into helping young people and strengthening the community around him.

Anyone fortunate enough to know Kevin knew a man of remarkable character. He was fair, humble, compassionate, dependable, and endlessly generous. Though naturally quiet, he possessed a quick wit and a subtle sense of humor that could make those around him laugh when they least expected it. He treated every person with dignity and respect, never seeking attention for the countless ways he served others. His calm presence made people feel safe, heard, and valued.

Kevin is survived by his beloved wife, Verouschka Betancourt Whigham; his sons, Court Whigham and Chase Whigham; his parents, Mimi and Pop; his sister, Sheri Keene, and her husband, Chris Keene; his niece, Hannah Keene; his nephew, Rylan Keene; and many treasured extended family members, dear friends, coworkers, and neighbors whose lives were forever enriched by his friendship and kindness.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents on both sides of his family. Although Kevin’s life ended far too soon, the legacy he leaves cannot be measured by years. It is found in the family he cherished, the communities he helped build, the young people he encouraged, the friends he faithfully served, and the countless lives forever changed by his compassion, humility, and quiet strength.

To know Kevin was to know someone you could always count on. He was the steady hand in every storm, the first to offer help, the last to seek credit, and the kind of man who made the world around him better simply by being in it.

His absence leaves an immeasurable void, but his love, his example, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of those who loved him for generations to come.
Kevin will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
