Obituary

Joseph Douglas "Doug" Harris passed away at home, surrounded by family on Thursday, February 6th. Doug was born in Royston, GA to the late Joseph "Roscoe" and Myrtie Harris on March 30, 1942. He married the love of his life, Kathleen, on December 25, 1958. Together, they had a daughter, Reneè. He was a hard worker- delivering milk as a child, working on the family farm, running a local restaurant, driving a chicken truck, but most of all, he was known for being a mechanic for over 40 years- having had Texaco service stations in Decatur and Stone Mountain. Above all else, he was a proud United States Army Veteran, where he was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas and achieved the rank of Sergeant and earned an Expert Rifle Badge.

He enjoyed the simple things in life- driving, making several roadtrips throughout the country with his late wife, watching the Dawgs play football every Saturday, and collecting various things ranging from coins, knives, and NASCAR memorabilia.

Preceding him in death were his beloved parents, Roscoe and Myrtie Harris, two brothers R.M. and Jimmy Harris, and a sister, Jennette Bryant. He is survived by his daughter Reneè (Nathaniel) Ray, grandchildren Ashley and Joseph Ray, brothers Clyde Harris and Donald (Wanda) Harris, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the team of North Georgia Medical Center Hospice for their care and guidance in his final days.
