John H. Lovern, Jr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died at home on November 27, 2023. He was 89.
Born and raised in Georgia, John was a U. S. Army veteran. He served as a Military Policeman (MP) in the Marshall Islands at Enewetak Atoll where he participated in Operation Hardtack. He received his Bachelor's in Business Administration from Georgia State University and spent a 38-year career with Eastern Airlines having retired as Manager Station Planning and Administration at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. John was a Mason and member of the Hapeville Lodge No. 590 F. & A. M.
He was an avid fisherman and the force behind fish frys at Ingleside Presbyterian Church. His enthusiasm for aviation coincided with his interest in family vacations which included three generations.
Immediate survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years Jane, his daughter Lisa, son-in-law Jamie, and his grandson Tate. Other survivors include John's two brothers-in-law and their wives, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John's daughter Lyn adored by everyone who knew her is especially remembered for her sense of humor and love of reading. In addition to Lyn, others who preceded John in death included his brother and sister-in-law, a niece, several aunts, and his parents.
Family and friends will receive visitors at Byrd and Flanigan, 288 Hurricane Shoals Road NE Lawrenceville, Georgia from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on December 1, 2023.
A memorial service will be held at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, 351 Morrow Road, Forest Park, Georgia at 2:00 PM on December 2, 2023. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
In Lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in John's memory to The Heart of Madison, Inc. a 501 ( c)3 Tax Exempt, Non-Profit Organization. The Heart of Madison supports Children's Healthcare of Atlanta "Feed The Heart" program and other missions. www.theheartofmadison.com
