John Kortier of Johns Creek, Georgia passed away peacefully in Emory Johns Creek Hospital on February 1, 2022 surrounded by family members.  He was 62.   He was born on April 20, 1959 to Charles S. "Bud" Kortier and Mary Jo Swift Kortier.  He grew up moving around the country with his father's career but spent most of his high school years in Richmond, Virginia.  He graduated from Brighton High School in Salt Lake City, Utah.  He pursued higher education at the University of Virginia graduating in 1981 with high honors from the McIntire School of Commerce.  He was a member of the of the famed Pep band as well as a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity.    From there he moved to Fairfax, Virginia and in 1982 he married Susan C. Simpson of Fairfax who was also a graduate of the McIntire school.  He spent his whole career in the tech industry in both sales management and leasing.  He retired from Cisco Systems, Inc. in August 2018.

John loved life.  He was an avid sports fan, enjoying both collegiate (especially his beloved UVa Wahoos) and professional sports. In addition to following sports, he participated in many including tennis, golf, disc golf, water skiing and especially snow skiing.   He organized a men's ski long weekend for over 20 years at his family's home in Keystone, Colorado.   He also loved music both as a listener and a musician.  He loved The Grateful Dead and all of their various spin offs.  He regularly attended music festivals. For the last 13 years he played the drums with a local band called Tullamore Road.  Another passion of his was the water.  He was an excellent boat captain and he and Susan enjoyed many times at their lake home on Lake Oconee.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Susan Kortier, and their two daughters,  Katie (partner Ryan) and Jennifer, both of whom live in Atlanta, two sisters, Kathy Rogers (Marc) of Portland, Oregon and Peggy Block (Chip) of Littleton, Colorado, and their rescue dog, Buddy.

A Celebration of Life for John will be held at 6:00 pm April 16, 2022 at the Rec Center in Country Club of the South, Johns Creek, Georgia.
