James Paulsen, age 77, passed away peacefully at home after a life marked by honorable service and dedication.
Jim was drafted into the United States Army in 1969 and served his country honorably for 22 years, retiring as a First Sergeant. During his distinguished military career, he earned the Bronze Star and served during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. His dedication, leadership, and loyalty to his fellow soldiers were qualities he carried throughout his life.
Following his military service, Jim continued serving his country as a government contractor, where he worked for another 22 years.
Jim was a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church and devoted many years to serving the church as part of the Audio Visual Team. His commitment to his church and willingness to serve were an important part of his life.
Jim loved animals, especially eagles. He also loved golf and bowling.
Jim will be remembered for his honorable service to his country, his dedication to his work and church, and the life he lived. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, fellow church members, and all who knew him.
May he rest in peace.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Bliss Paulsen and Eleanor Ann Kealer, and his daughter, Melissa Colson.
He is survived by his wife, Benita Paulsen of Lilburn; son and daughter-in-law, James and Christina Lamonds of Asheboro, NC; daughter, Tiffany Colson of Lilburn; grandchildren, Dylan Lamonds, Krista Lamonds, Alyssa Lamonds, Aiden Parker, Jordan Fredy, and Wyatt Knowles; and great-grandchildren, Holland Smith and Maisie Jo Lamonds.
A Memorial Service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Bethany Baptist Church, with Pastor Brian Boyles officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
