James Alton Carter Jr.

In Loving Memory of James A. Carter Jr. James A. Carter Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion to his family. Born on February 20, 1972, James was born and raised in Monroe, Georgia, a place he was proud to call home.

James was the devoted husband of Hazel Carter. His family was the center of his world, and the love he had for them was immeasurable. He cherished every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and loved ones. 

James was a man who loved deeply, gave generously, and made sure those around him knew they were loved. James was the proud owner of JH Construction, where he poured his hard work, determination, and dedication into building his business. Those who knew him knew that he was a hardworking man who took pride in what he did and in providing for the people he loved. Above all else, James had an immense love for Jesus Christ. His faith was an important part of who he was, and his love for the Lord was reflected in the way he loved his family and those around him. His family finds comfort in knowing that James is now resting in the presence of the Savior he loved so dearly. 

James was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Shirley Carter. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Hazel Carter; his father, James A. Carter Sr.; his four children, Zachary Carter and wife Madison, Randy Carter, Chelsea Carter, and Chloe Carter; and his goddaughter, Hannah Gentry. He also leaves behind six grandchildren who brought tremendous joy to his life: Tori Carter, Brantley Carter, Zai Carter, Zoey Ray, Khloie Ray, and James Ray. James had a simple appreciation for the things he enjoyed in life. He loved cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, watching the Atlanta Braves, and enjoying a good ole Mountain Dew. But more than any team, hobby, or pastime, James loved his family and his Lord. Those who knew him will remember his heart, his faith, his love, and the many ways he made an impact on the lives of those around him . His family takes comfort in these words from Scripture: “His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”— Matthew 25:21 (KJV)

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday September 6, 2026 at Church on Main room A-112. The family will receive friends on Sunday September 6, 2026 from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm at the church.
