Obituary

Freddie "Ted" Harvey Thomason, affectionately known as "Pawpaw," passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, at 3:05 p.m., surrounded by the family he so dearly loved. He was 79 years old.

Born on April 8, 1946, in Rockmart, Georgia, Freddie was the youngest of five children born to Hoke and Verdelle Thomason. Raised in Rockmart, he carried the values of faith, family, and hard work from his small-town upbringing throughout his life. After graduating from Rockmart High School, Freddie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. His service took him from basic training in Texas to assignments in Alaska—his favorite post—and finally Florida, where he completed his honorable service in 1967.

Upon returning home, Freddie met the love of his life, Barbara, and the two were married on December 24, 1969. Their union was one of deep devotion and enduring love. Together, they raised two sons, Travis and Chris, building a home rooted in faith, kindness, and unwavering support.

Freddie dedicated 35 years of his life to a career in commercial building maintenance and worked various other jobs over the years. A man of integrity and quiet strength, he approached everything he did with diligence and pride.

Freddie found joy in life's simplest and most meaningful pleasures. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, and he treasured every moment spent with his family. For more than 50 years, he was a faithful member of the Lawrenceville Church of Christ, where he lived out his Christian faith in words and in deeds.

Above all, Freddie's greatest joy came from being a grandfather. He adored his four grandchildren—Matthew, Elaina, Gracie, and Anderson—and his love for them knew no bounds. "Pawpaw" was not just a title, but a role he embraced wholeheartedly.

To know Freddie was to love him. Though a man of few words, his gentle spirit, deep patience, and quiet wisdom left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was kind, thoughtful, hardworking, and steadfast in his faith. His life was a testament to love, humility, and grace.

Freddie is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Barbara Thomason; his sons, Travis Thomason (Christy) and Chris Thomason; his cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Elaina, Gracie, and Anderson Thomason; his sister and brother-in-law, Alline and James Jones; and a host of extended family members and dear friends whose lives he touched so deeply.

His presence was a gift, his love a blessing, and his memory will be forever cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
