IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Darrell Eardley
Whitburn Sr.
December 13, 1933 – May 16, 2024
Darrell Eardley Whitburn Sr. passed away on Thursday, May 16th, 2024 at the age of 90 years. Darrell was born on December 13th, 1933 to Robert and Margaret Morley Whitburn in Rawalpindi, India (presently Pakistan). From his childhood in the jungles of India, to England, Canada and the US, his many life adventures led him to settle in Suwanee, Georgia beside the most amazing neighbors anyone could hope for. The family is eternally grateful for the kindness and generosity shown by his neighbors Rick Park, Ruth and Carmen Turner. It was in Georgia that Darrell found his true home and met his friend, golf partner and racetrack travel companion, the late Richard (Dick) Johnston. It was also there that he met his best friend, partner-in-crime, and co-"heartthrob of the senior circuit", John Powell.
Darrell adored his brother Bill Whitburn (Jill) and his sister, the late Barbara Stewart (Gary). He is survived by his children Mark Whitburn (Debbie), Darrell Whitburn Jr. (Cynthia), Wendi Hulme (Paul), Cindy Mailloux (Charles) and Melanie Adams. He will also be dearly missed by his step-children Tracy Walters, Debbie Stellatos (Mike), Marcey Royster and his 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Shared memories of sailing to Bermuda will be forever cherished by family and friends in Virginia Beach.
Darrell was many things; a singer, an actor, a golfer, a collector, a soldier (Korea), a tea taster, a bird enthusiast. He worked as a salesman in the natural gas industry for over 40 years before retiring in 2014 from Atlanta Propane.
Services will be held at The Catholic Church of St. Monica's, 1700 Buford Highway, Duluth, GA 30097 on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024 at 11:00am. Lunch to follow.
