IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Curtis Henry
Young Jr.
January 28, 1943 – December 1, 2022
On December 1st, 2022, Curtis "Curt" H. Young, Jr. of Lawrenceville, completed his journey on this earth after a long illness with Parkinson's disease. He was 79. Curtis was raised in Fairburn, Georgia and was a graduate of Campbell High School in Atlanta. Curtis had a deep love of nature, a fondness for fishing in the Chattahoochee River, and a respect for all living things. Curtis was a tinkerer, a maker of things, and a jack of all trades. He loved to eat at Waffle House and knew all the servers and cooks by name. Curtis loved to tell stories, and he made friends wherever he went. Curtis was a long time Boy Scout leader and volunteered as a Boy Scout Commissioner even after his own children were grown, because he loved camping and teaching others about the outdoors. He was an avid HAM Radio operator and was a member of the Gwinnett Amateur Radio Society for years. Curtis was also passionate about genealogy and learning about and celebrating his Native American heritage. Professionally, Curtis worked with telephone systems for Southern Bell, and then as a computer programmer and systems engineer, back in the early days of computers. His biggest professional accomplishment was helping to create the first unified computer system showing flight arrival and departure times for all the airlines at Hartsfield International Airport, back when the airport was being built. Curtis is survived by his four children: Deborah L. Young (Devin Arnold) of Athens, Jon H. Young (Sheri Young) of Lawrenceville, James H. Young of Aurora, Colorado, Amy E. Hicks (Jon Hicks) of Dacula, and seven grandchildren – Robert Young, Jessica Humphries, Emily Young, Hannah Young, Erin Young, Caitlynne Hicks-Anderson, and Lyn Hicks. He is preceded in death by his wife Martha Howard Young, and his parents Curtis and Eleanor Young. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday December 10, 2022 from the chapel of Byrd and Flanigan Funeral Home. Arrangements by Byrd and Flanigan Crematory & Funeral Service, Lawrenceville. 770-962-2200
