Obituary

Charles Anderson Jones, Sr., age 85, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2024, in Snellville, GA, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Greenwood, MS, on October 20, 1938, to Johnny Anderson Jones and Mary Thomas Jones, Charles was the eldest of two children. He grew up in Memphis, TN, and graduated from Treadwell High School. He continued his education at Georgia Tech University.

Charles married June Parker Bryan on September 3, 1960, in Memphis, TN. Their love story began by meeting in a Sunday School Class at Highland Heights Methodist Church and flourished into a 63 year marriage marked by deep devotion and partnership. Together, they embraced a love for travel and adventure, exploring cities around the world and enjoying local destinations like Perry's in Daytona Beach along with 50+ friends for many years each summer.   Despite busy lives, they cherished their time together, frequently meeting for lunch just to enjoy each other's company.  Charles was devoted to his Church and Fellowship Sunday School Class and participated in many volunteer activities including meals on Wheels.  He was an active member of The Romeos Club which he enjoyed with retired men from Snellville UMC.

Charles was a dedicated father to Charles A. Jones, Jr. (Kathy), Brian W. Jones (Melinda), and David A. Jones (Elizabeth Webb). His grandchildren—Jacob Randall Jones, Nancy Carolyn Jones, Patricia Michelle Jones, Joshua Ray Lykins, Brandon Edward Lykins—were his pride and joy. Charles worked from a young age, starting with a paper route at 14. He later owned Bluff City Vending Co., worked at Grace Chemical Company, and moved to Atlanta in 1961 to work in management for Bumper Service of Atlanta. He later became known for his expert plating of antique car parts and all things chrome, working until an injury forced his retirement at age 80. Known for his warm heart, humor, and loyalty, Charles left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His life was filled with love, kindness, and integrity, and his legacy will continue through those he touched.

Charles is survived by his wife June, their three sons, and five grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Nancy Bryan Franklin (Ron), nephews Johnny Hunt, Buster Franklin, Jon Franklin, niece Karin Pochmara. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister, Mary Hunt Latham of Jackson, TN.

A celebration of Charles' life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Snellville Community Church at 11 AM. The family invites all who knew and loved Charles to join them in remembering a life well-lived.
