Epitaph

Carlton Spencer Joyce, son of the Rev. Dr. Joseph G. Joyce and Susan Mellett Carlton Joyce, was born in Smith Falls, Ontario in December 1930. He graduated from Sir George Williams University in Montreal in 1954 with a science degree.  After apprenticing under Dr. Theodore N. Kleinert, a renowned spectroscopist at the Pulp & Paper Research Institute of Canada, he left in 1966 to form his own company performing oil analysis with its headquarters in Toronto.  Carlton was a pioneer in the field of oil analysis and authored twelve technical publications and holds two U.S. patents relating to emission spectroscopy.  In 1974, he moved the company to Atlanta.

His interest in military history developed over the years, especially the history of the Normandy Invasion.  His passion once led him to interview President Eisenhower and record the General's personal thoughts on The Invasion.  After retiring to Highlands, North Carolina, in 1995, he published his research and historic interviews in a D-Day book and began giving guided tours of WWII battlefields.

He had many interests, including the early foundations of Christianity which included the study of the Shroud of Turin.  He enjoyed sailing, snow skiing, reading, travel, and most importantly, spending time with his family and friends.

We hope you can join us in celebrating his full life and sharing stories and happy memories with us. The celebration of life event will be held on Sunday, April 16th at 12:30 in downtown Lawrenceville, 407 N Clayton Street.
