Obituary

Andrew ("Andy") Ralph Pourchier, 73, a loving husband and father, died May 8, 2024, at his home in Statham, Georgia.  A native of Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey, Andy was born to the late Ralph and Eleanor (Lewis) Pourchier on March 21, 1951.  He graduated high school before attending college at Morehead State University where he played football.  While at MSU, he received the unfortunate news of his father's passing and returned home to help support his family.  Andy moved to Atlanta in the early 1970s to look for new job opportunities.  After several jobs, including working at a car dealership and a local printing company, he landed his first opportunity in the banking industry. It was in banking that his passion for and abilities with numbers came together. He rose quickly within in the banking sector, ultimately serving as president of a local bank. Eventually, he settled into his primary role as Chief Financial Officer of The Bank of Gwinnett County where he continued to serve through its successful sale, and then helped start First Bank of the South where he oversaw another successful sale before entering retirement in 2007.  Upon retirement, Andy was determined to get back to the beach, but instead of returning north to the New Jersey shore, he and his lovely wife, Kathy, moved to Saint Simons Island where they resided for 13 years.  In December 2020, Andy and Kathy moved back to the Athens area so they could be close to their three boys and eight grandchildren. Over the past four years, they have spent their free time attending dance recitals, track meets, and countless football, basketball, softball, and soccer games. Andy was his grandchildren's biggest—and loudest—fan.

Andy was known for his loyalty to his family and friends, his dedication to helping others and his community, his hard work, and of course, his opinions.  Andy's community commitments included service roles with Gwinnett County Public Schools, Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful, Chairman of the Gwinnett Public Library Board, Chairman of Gwinnett Tech's Council of Advisors, United Way Middle Market Chair, and being involved with The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.  He was also heavily involved with his three boys' passions for soccer and basketball, serving on booster clubs at Brookwood and North Gwinnett high schools.  Andy used his tenacity, intelligence, voice, and strong opinions to fight fiercely for those who needed help and the people he loved.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Kathleen Hughes Pourchier; three sons and eight grandchildren, Andrew and Nicole Pourchier (Penelope & Banks) of Loganville, Jeffrey and Jennifer Pourchier (Beau, Cole, Charley & Aubrey) of Canton, and Christopher and Rachel Pourchier (Crew & Hawk) of Cumming; his sisters Mari DePhillips of New Jersey, Margo (Neil) Harsant of New Zealand, his brother Robert (Rachel) Pourchier of Florida, and his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
