Sarah Mignon Wilson

Sarah Mignon Ross Wilson of Athens, Georgia passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 8, 2018, one day after her eightieth birthday. Daughter of Dr. Sam Harry and Edna Ross, Mignon was born in Anderson, South Carolina and educated at Salem College and the University of Arkansas. She was an energetic and devoted mother to her three children, had a passion for reading and writing, taught in public schools, served as a literacy advocate in both public and private institutions, and authored several exceptional articles for local papers. President of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Herb Society for a period in the 1980’s, she was also a seamstress and a quilter, carrying away top prizes in the Maine Quilt Show when she lived in Portland. Though her mobility was compromised later in life, Mignon was an outdoor enthusiast in her early years—camping in the woods of New Hampshire, leading her family to the Rockies and southern Appalachia on backpacking ventures, and bringing her children on archeological digs. She will be dearly missed. Mignon is survived by her three children, Sloan and his wife Elisabeth of New Haven, Connecticut, Gregg and his wife Lily of Austin, Texas, and Callie of Everett, Washington; her brother Sam H. Ross, III, MD, and his wife Linda of Williamston, South Carolina; and her former husband, R. Sloan Wilson, MD, of Rye, New Hampshire Arrangements are being handled by  Byrd and Flanigan Crematory & Funeral Service,
