Monica Schiffer Edwards

Monica was born Nov 9, 1948 in Lake Charles, LA. She went to the University of Southwest Louisiana and became a medical technologist. She received her specialist certification in blood banking from Parkland Memorial hospital in Dallas, Texas. She joined the American Red Cross in 1992 in Savannah, GA. In her 27 years with the Red Cross she held numerous positions and received numerous awards and commendations.  She was a recognized expert in the field of quality assurance. Monica loved and was loved by many friends and family members. She loved watching all types of sports and was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons, probably in that order. She loved and was proud of her adopted home town of Atlanta and suffered with the rest of the city during their last Super Bowl appearance. Monica loved the outdoors, in particular the Smoky mountains. She was an avid bird watcher. She loved traveling and experiencing new things, especially with her best bud and partner in crime, Angela. They travelled together to Russia, Peru, Turkey, and Greece, and all over the United States. Monica had a reputation as a giver of the best and most unique gifts. She never forgot a birthday and everyone was eager to see what her latest gifting craze was every Christmas. Monica is survived by and missed dearly by her nephews, Kevin and Greg, her brother Tom, and her best friend, Angela. Family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Monica’s name to the Red Cross. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019, at 11:00 am in the chapel of Byrd & Flanigan Funeral Service Lawrenceville GA.  with Rev.
