 Susan Lieske Rego was born November 5, 1948, in Lincoln, Nebraska to Cal and Beth Miller.   She grew up on the family farm near Utica, Nebraska with her two brothers, Jim and Dick.   Susan loved animals as a kid, and had several pets as a little girl.  She graduated from Utica Public School and then received her nursing degree at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, NE in 1969.  Her first job was as a cardiac surgery nurse in Omaha, Nebraska.  She married Don Alan Lieske June 6, 1970, and they resided in Omaha, NE before moving to Houston, Texas.  Their next move was to Shreveport, Louisiana then eventually to Atlanta, Georgia.  Susan was a proficient cardiac surgery nurse in each of the cities where they lived, notably Saint Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta.  She was known by the nursing staffs around her as always being quiet, steady, and strong.  As well as being a skilled and experienced cardiac surgery nurse, Susan most loved her role as a mother to her two sons.
         Don and Susan had two sons - Chad and Corey, currently both residing in Atlanta with their families.   Don Lieske passed away in September, 1999.  Susan later remarried.  Susan and Paul Rego were married January 26, 2007, on Gasparella Island, Florida.  Since that time, then have lived happily in Dunwoody, Georgia with annual travel junkets to Bermuda, Illinois, and California.  In addition to their extensive travels, Susan and Paul have been ardent supporters and attendees of First Baptist Church of Atlanta since their marriage in 2007.  They enjoyed their time together with friends and family, especially time spent with their three Lieske grandchildren, Avery and Ben Lieske, and Sam Lieske.

     Susan enjoyed time traveling and time spent in her beautiful backyard gardening.  Her love of the game of golf grew with the help of her loving husband, Paul.  She always loved a good book.  But most of all, Susan enjoyed her precious time with her family and friends, as she realized these people and relationships were the most important to her.  Most recently, she loved going to Lake Lanier in the summertime to spend time with her children and grandchildren, and to enjoy the beautiful Georgia outdoors as a family.  She also adored her time with a close-knit group of female hospital friends, the Ya-Ya's.  Susan knew she was lucky and privileged to have such caring and loving friends, and there was always lots of laughter whenever these ladies would gather.

     Susan Lieske is survived by her husband, Paul Rego, brother Dick Miller, son and daughter-in-law Corey and Emily Lieske, son and daughter-in-law Chad and Paige Lieske, and her three grandchildren, Avery and Ben (Corey and Emily Lieske), and Sam (Chad and Paige Lieske). 

A celebration of life service will be held for Susan on Monday, October 30th at 3:00 pm in the chapel at First Baptist Church Atlanta.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Samaritan’s Purse c/o Susan Lieske Rego’s memorial fund.
